On the CHNCMO blog, you will find deep dives into the North Carolinian musicians who’ve performed on Shaped by Sound (our collaboration with PBS NC), updates about upcoming musical events and celebrations, NC genre primers, explorations of interesting music news in the state, and breakdowns of local and statewide artist opportunities.
Also featured on the site are a variety of updated resources to keep music folks in the loop. In this section, you’ll find the following informative directories: Live Music Venues, Music Camps, University Music Programs, Record Stores, Vinyl Record Pressing Providers, Recording Studios, and Musical Instrument Stores. Looking for visual art to guide your way through our state’s musical heritage? Look no further than our website, which details the visual artist Scott Nurkin’s NC Musician Murals project. Begun as a casual arrangement between Nurkin and the owner of Pepper’s Pizza in Chapel Hill, today Nurkin’s murals of NC music legends can be found throughout the state. Our website has pictures of the murals, biographies of the musicians, and information about where to find them.
Of additional interest is a series of features on music communities throughout the state: Asheville, Danbury, Durham, Edenton, Elizabeth City, Kinston, Lansing, Marshall, Mount Airy, Robbinsville, and Shelby.
