Guided by our 2025-2029 strategic plan, the North Carolina Arts Council is reshaping how we serve the state's schools, educators, and students. In summer 2026, we will launch a menu of programs and services designed to help schools integrate the arts more fully into the learning experience. Drawing from the practice and pedagogy of A+ Schools, the menu of offerings will include:
- Professional development opportunities for teachers
- Access to teaching artists for school visits
- Consultation services for administrators
- Other arts learning resources
Rather than offering grants, the Arts Council will provide these programs and services directly to school districts and schools upon request. This stream-lined approach offers a more efficient timeline and eliminates barriers for participation. The grant categories called cARTwheels and Arts in Education (AIE) Artist Residencies have been phased out as we build the new direct service model for FY2026-27.
Please note: nonprofit organizations seeking support for projects serving young audiences may be eligible to apply for Project Support.
More details about the offerings and request process will be available in the coming months. In the meanwhile, we welcome feedback to help us shape the menu.
