Frequently Asked Questions

I am an artist. Are there grants available to me?

We award Artist Fellowships to choreographers, songwriters, composers, writers, visual, craft, and film/video artists. We also support innovative artist-in-residence projects in North Carolina communities with the Mary B. Regan Community Artist Residency Grant. We fund Regional Artist Project Grants through local arts councils.

We also maintain a listing of Artist Opportunities for artists working in a variety of genres provided from all types of organizations. This includes emergency assistance grants offered by organizations such as the Craft Emergency Relief Fund, the Joan Mitchell Foundation, and the Adolph & Esther Gottlieb Foundation.

The North Carolina Arts Council offers many grants to nonprofit arts organization – all with a yearly March 1 deadline. If your organization has been producing quality arts programs for at least two consecutive years and has prior-year organizational cash operating expenses of at least $20,000, you are eligible. We’d suggest checking out our Program Support grant first, but the whole list of our organizational grants can be found here.

I applied for a grant. When will I hear back?

The process includes N.C. We send notifications out as soon as we can, typically in late July or early August.
