Born Arthel Lane Watson, Doc Watson was a prolific guitar player and folk musician. This Deep Gap, North Carolina native received seven Grammys. Watson was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Grammy Awards in 2004.

Trivia Tuesday: The First Lady of Gospel and The Queen of Soul

Durham’s Shirley Caesar, often called “The First Lady of Gospel,” was a life-long friend of Aretha Franklin. The Grammy Award-winning performer first met Franklin as a teenager when they were on tour with Franklin’s father. Caesar performed at Aretha Franklin’s funeral last year.
