Press Release and Printed Materials Boilerplate

The boilerplate below can be used to describe the North Carolina Arts Council in many formats, such as in printed programs and signage. This statement should be used at the end of press releases and in other printed materials for any program or project that is supported with funds from the North Carolina Arts Council. When you write your press release, add a similar paragraph about your group at the end. Media professionals are accustomed to seeing two such paragraphs at the end of any news release discussing a joint effort between two organizations.

The mission of the North Carolina Arts Council is to make North Carolina a better state through the arts. The council nurtures and supports excellence in the arts, and provides opportunities for every North Carolinian to experience the arts. A division of the Department of Cultural Resources (www.ncculture.com), the Arts Council serves as a catalyst for the development of arts organizations and facilities throughout North Carolina with grant funding and technical assistance.

Tips on Communicating with Your Legislators

One of the requirements of your grant is to write your legislators to thank them for appropriating funds for your award and to inform them of the project activities and community impact. Here are some tips to help you as you communicate with your legislators.

The best letter is one composed by you in your own words. Generally, legislators do not respond to “form letters” so we have not included a template for your mandatory letter. Here are some suggestions to include in the letter you write:

Issue a special invitation to your legislators to attend the state funded arts activities. Show your lawmakers where those appropriated dollars are going. Recognize them at the event in appreciation of their support.

Consider writing something that your legislators can use in their own newsletter. An open thank you letter about arts funding is something that your legislators’ constituents might be interested in seeing.
