The mission of the Arts Council is to make North Carolina a better state through the arts. The Arts Council provides technical assistance, information resources, and more than 1,000 grants each year to nonprofit organizations and artists. We have a 24-member board appointed by the Governor and a 26-member staff who serve as the steward of state and federal funds appropriated for the arts.
The North Carolina Arts Council is part of the Department of Cultural Resources, the nation's first cabinet level state department for the arts, history, and libraries. Arts Council funding comes primarily from the North Carolina legislature and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.
