Local Arts Councils

The Catawba County Council for the Arts Hickory, North Carolina The North Carolina Arts Council works with local arts councils and community arts organizations in all 100 counties to create and sustain innovative arts programs. The scope and size of these organizations vary widely. Arts councils strive to develop, promote, and coordinate the arts at the community level.
The Grassroots Arts Program, managed by the Arts in Communities Program, annually distributes funds for local arts programs to all of North Carolina's 100 counties on a per capita basis. Countywide arts councils usually serve as the agencies that distribute these funds. As Designated County Partners, they have the responsibility of developing and executing annual plans to contribute to the overall development of the arts. In addition to its grants programs, the AIC Program staff offer a number of services to the field, including: - Consultations with organizations
- Board development training
- Strategic planning
- Information and referral
- Regional workshops for Grassroots Arts Program Designated County Partners
- Staff consultations
- A biannual statewide local arts council retreat
