Arts and Economic Prosperity Creative Industry ParticipationThe Arts and Economic Prosperity IV (AEPIV) study by Americans for the Arts measures the nonprofit and government sector of the creative industry. Eligible organizations are identified using the National Taxonomy of Exempt Entities (NTEE) classification as Arts, Culture and Humanities. The North Carolina Arts Council database lists nearly 4,000 potential participant groups throughout the state. A 2009 analysis of the creative industry by the North Carolina Department of Commerce included 47,545 establishments, both nonprofit and for-profit. This combined arts and culture business contributes nearly 6 percent of the state's production. The nonprofit sector is the catalyst and incubator for much of this creative energy.
