Concert/Classical Composer
"I will use this fellowship to provide the time to participate in the collaborative rehearsal process for two new theater works: a dance work for Durhams Ciompi Quartet and the Carolina Ballet, which will premiere in Spring 2000, and an opera for the fiftieth anniversary of the National Opera Company in Raleigh. This piece, on the Wright Brothers and their first flight, will be titled Kitty Hawk and will also premiere in Spring 2000."
J. Mark Scearce is Composer-in-Residence in Hickory as part of New Residencies, a national program of Meet The Composer, Inc. Published and recorded, his music has won four national competitions and been heard in recent performances in France, Korea, new Zealand, and across America. He received Bachelors of Art degrees in Music and Philosophy and Religion, and a Bachelor of Music degree from Northeast Missouri State University. He earned a Master of Music Degree and a Doctor of Music Degree from Indiana University.
