Frances M. Wood
Fiction Writer

Wood, Frances - Writers Fellowship

"When I moved to North Carolina I immersed myself in the history and natural history of the Eno River valley so that I could convey the sense of place, both time and location, of the characters in my first novel, Becoming Rosemary. I have since developed a yen to write a similar story set in eastern North Carolina - and my editor has asked me to write a novel placed in California during the time of the Gold Rush. I am asking for grant money for research materials, for travel, and - most importantly - for time to write."

Frances M. Wood holds an M.A. from the University of California at Berkeley and a B.A. from Stanford University. She lives in Durham and has worked as a reference librarian both at Duke University and Durham Public libraries.
