"I have now nearly completed the second draft of my second novel, Thalia from the Shadows. During the two years of weekends I have devoted to this book, I found that I am hampered by the classic problem facing creative writers who must complete their artistic work in ‘their spare time.’ Since early 1996, I have been spending the bulk of my weekends and some evenings on writing, researching, and re-writing the nearly 500-page draft of the work. I need to literally ‘buy some time’ from my employer to finish up the details of this manuscript, obtain a good agent, and perform the inevitable rewrites that manuscripts frequently need to fulfill the requirements of today's publishers."

Ellen Devlin received a Masters of Fine Arts degree from UNC-Greensboro and a BA in Literature/Communications from Pace University. She is a development writer in the Alumni Development office at Duke University, in Durham. She lives in Chapel Hill.
