Dan Locklair
Concert/Classical Composer
"In my 1999-2000 Fellowship year, I will compose a chamber work for flute, cello and piano of approximately 15 minutes in duration. The new work will be performed by the Emrys Ensemble, the Mallarme¢ Chamber Players and at the Summerfest (Kansas City) and Foothils Music Festival during the 2000 - 2001 season. Selected paintings in the Reynolda House of American Art in Winston-Salem will serve as extra-musical stimulus in the creation of this new piece.
I am very eager to create this new composition. With money in such short supply for virtually all chamber music ensembles, this new composition will be especially timely for the ensembles which would perform it, since such a new work would offer special programming excitement in the year that begins the new millennium."
Dan Locklair is a graduate of the Eastman School of Music. He is Composer-in-Residence and Professor of Music at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, where he lives.
