Alex Finlayson
Playwright

"What I envision is a one-character, full-length play based on the life of Gertrude Blom, the Swiss photographer who immigrated to Mexico in 1943. A North Carolina Arts Council fellowship will fund the trip to visit Gertrude Blom’s home and jungle camp in Chiapas, Mexico. It also would give me the chance to visit and interview people in the U.S. who lived and worked with Gerturude Blom. It would support me during the writing of the play. And maybe most important of all, after 17 years of writing plays, of being celebrated in England, and of being an American nomad, a North Carolina Arts Council Fellowship would proclaim that I’ve come home."

Alex Finlayson is a playwright living in Chapel Hill. She graduated from Wellesley College and received an M.A. from the University of Virginia.
