Dave Wofford
Book artist
"I plan to use the fellowship entirely to purchase equipment to
extend my current book arts studio facilities. Specifically, I
plan to use the fellowship to outfit a papermaking studio to add
to my image-making, letterpress printing, and bookbinding studio.
For the last six years I have been combining art, craft, and design
into a unified activity through the creation of handmade books.
Being able to make my own paper in my studio will allow me to
continue to push the tactile nature of the books I have been producing,
and extend the philosophy underlying the creation of my books
(that objects made by hand, designed creatively, and made well
become tactile artifacts that have infinitely more life and energy
to them than the machine-made products of our assembly-line age)."
Dave Wofford has a Bachelor of Environmental Design degree from
the School of Design at North Carolina State University in Raleigh.
He is co-proprietor of Horse & Buggy Press, which is housed in
Antfarm Studios, a cooperative studio in Raleigh where he lives.
