Installation artist
"Currently, my artistic focus is to design and build rooms within
a gallery to alter the viewers perceptions of interior space.
Through the manipulation of the walls, floor, ceiling, and objects
in the fabricated room viewers are challenged to reconsider the
space around them. By including sound and treating the surfaces
of the room with collaged material, paint, or video projections,
any concrete reference to a traditional exhibition space is eliminated.
This displacement of viewers in the physical space causes them
to participate with the art and develop a heightened visual awareness
of the outside world.
A North Carolina Visual Arts Fellowship is pivotal at this time.
It allows me the opportunity to experiment with new technologies
and produce maquettes for interactive installations."
Brad Thomas has a Bachelor of Creative Arts from the University
of North Carolina at Charlotte. He lives in Charlotte and is the
exhibition coordinator at The Light Factory.
