Melvin Stanforth
Visual artist
"With the aid of special computer software, I intend to use this
grant to make three or four large scale images that will be converted
to screen prints, perhaps for exhibition on sidewalk A-frame sandwich
boards, or other uncommon venues. Because there are technical
issues with which I have not had contact for years, there is a
definite back-to-school element to my project. The fellowship
will help pay for the software program Posterworks and related
computer supplies, supplies for the making of the screen prints
-- inks, paper, stencil materials, special tables, frames, fabrics,
squeegees -- modification of the vent system in my studio, salary
for a studio assistant and travel expenses to visit one or more
workshops doing large screen prints."
Melvin Stanforth has a B.F.A. from the University of Alabama and
an M.F.A. from Wayne State University. He is a professor of art
at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC, where he lives.
