Marya Roland
Sculptor
"I will use my fellowship for a project exploring the relationship
of art, technology, and the viewer. The viewer will interact physically
and electronically with the sculpture and become part of the artwork
in a thematic context of the body-spirit-mind relationship. The
fellowship will enable me to realize this project and continue
my work in the area of the integration of viewer and technology
contributing to the pioneering body of works dealing with technology
and interactivity integrated into sculptural form."
Marya Roland has a B.A. in art history from the University of
California, Berkeley, and an M.F.A. in sculpture from the University
of Washington, Seattle. She lives in Waynesville, NC and is an
assistant professor of Art at Western Carolina University in Cullowhee,
NC.
