Dorne Pentes
Filmmaker
"I plan to use the fellowship, to pursue a project entitled 'Ghosts,'
a 50-minute short film which examines, within a loose narrative
structure, the lives of two children from a mill neighborhood.
Their quest for the means to bury their dead grandmother becomes
a road to self-discovery and spiritual adventure in the outside
world. The fellowship will pay for film stock and processing,
equipment rental, feeding of the cast and the very small volunteer
crew, and enough post-production to get the negative processed
and in the can. The film will be shot in Super 8mm negative stock,
a medium whose graininess and sharp contrasts are a perfect complement
to the setting and narrative."
Dorne Pentes has a B.A. in English Literature from the University
of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and an M.F.A. in filmmaking from
the NYU Graduate Program. He is a freelance writer / director
for film and video production in Charlotte, NC.
