Valerie DiScuillo Midgett
and Hilary Yacovetti
Choreographers

"This fellowship will allow for complete attention and time to our art, as well as provide space essential to our process as independent choreographers. It will afford the opportunity to experiment with artistic impulses and videography for dance. Choreographic research will be accessible and new work a reality as regeneration and transformation of ideas occur. This fellowship is essential to us as collaborative artists in order to create an environment where emerging work is fostered, matured, and allowed to grow."

Valerie Midgett and Hilary Yacovetti co-direct, choreograph and perform with X Factor, a contemporary dance company they founded in western North Carolina in 1995. In addition both women are guest artists on the dance faculty at Lees McRae College, Battle Elk, NC. Valerie did her undergraduate work at East Carolina University, earned her MS in Exercise Science at Appalachian State University, and received her MFA in dance from UNC-Greensboro. Hilary studied at State University of New York at Purchase, NY and has attended Atlantic Center for the Arts as associate choreographer under Merce Cunningham, Meg Harper, and Molissa Fenly. Valerie and Hilary are committed to creating new work and advocating dance through outreach programs, seminars, and performances.
