Patrick Dougherty
Sculptor
"During the last ten years I have created over one hundred temporary,
site-specific installations, which translates into a decade of
constant travel. Constantly working has left little time for research
and reflection, little time to experiment and explore new ideas.
I plan to explore photography as a method of seeing the old efforts
in new ways and as a way to improve my capacity to see and react.
I also want to investigate the use of saplings as a building material
in other cultures past and present, and study the use of these
materials by natural shelter builders in the animal world. I imagine
using these discoveries to explore new directions in my own work."
Patrick Dougherty has a B.A. in English from the University of
North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and an M.A. from the University of
Iowa, Iowa City. He lives in Chapel Hill, NC.
