Elisabeth Stagg
Writer
"I write because I must, but less than I must. Less than I promise
myself I will write each day, each week. In the morning I plan
that evening's work -- the poetry I'll write after I've finished
my other work -- but often I don't get to the poems, or give them
less time than they require.
"I feel a sense of urgency about poetry: I want to work more steadily
-- writing and submitting poems, and putting together a chapbook."
Fall, 1996
"The NC Arts Council Fellowship is making it possible for me to
have sustained writing time -- the best gift any writer can get."
Winter, 1997
