Paul Mihas
Headlands Residency
During my seven weeks at Headlands Center for the Arts I revised
my novel, The Groom's Dowry, and strengthened areas of my writing that I feel are underdeveloped.
I also solidified plans for a collection of short stories set
in Greece and completed several of them. I even experimented with
poetry, which I later shared with a poet-in-residence. I spent
five nights a week with other writers and artists discussing each
other's daily failures and breakthroughs. I spent several weekends
exploring the San Francisco area and made some especially valuable
connections with Greek senior citizens who helped me understand
the Greek American experience in the west, themes of my fictional
world.
Paul Mihas received a B.A. degree from Gustavus Adolphus College,
St. Peter, MN, and a Masters of Arts degree from the University
of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is managing editor of Social Force, an academic journal in the social sciences and lives in Carrboro,
NC.
