Scott Meister
Composer
"I am using a small amount of the fellowship to upgrade my M.I.D.I.
computer system which will make my compositional process a little
more livable and accessible. I am also going to travel to some
of the countries that I have been studying and researching over
the past few years. In February I will be visiting the most southern
east Caribbean country Trinidad and Tobago. I will be there just
prior to Carnivale during the heart of Calypso and Soca music
and the steel bands will be rehearsing in preparation for the
panorama competition. In March I will be in Ireland to research
traditional Celtic music in preparation for a new orchestra piece
to be premiered in the Spring of 1999. Also, in May I will be
in Hawaii to study Polynesian music and its culture. I'm sure
my artistic development will be enhanced by observing other cultures
and witnessing first hand the musicians and their instruments."
Scott Meister has a Doctor of Music Arts in composition and a
Master of Music in Performance and Theory/Composition from the
University of Miami, Miami, Florida, and a Bachelor of Music from
Ashland University, Ashland, Ohio. He is Sharpe Chair Professor
of Fine and Applied Arts and Professor of Music at Appalachian
State University in Boone, NC, where he resides.
