Gregg Gelb
Composer
"The success of the Gregg Gelb Swing Band can be attributed to
its unique 'little big band' sound. We play my arrangements of
jazz standards, transcriptions of earlier small swing bands, and
my original compositions. Receiving the 1997-98 fellowship has
allowed me the time to write a new set of arrangements of Cole
Porter tunes and more arrangements and compositions are in the
works. The fellowship funds will also be used for marketing and
making a new recording."
Gregg Gelb has a B. A. from the Berklee College of Music and a
Master of Music from the North Carolina School of the Arts. He
is a jazz musician, private music teacher, as well as leader of
the Gregg Gelb Swing Band, the Heart of Carolina Jazz Orchestra
and Society, and is co-founder and member of the North Carolina
Jazz Repertory Orchestra and. He lives in Sanford, NC with his
wife and vocalist, Kathy and his son, Christopher.
