Charles Frazier
Writer
"I am currently wrapping up a long first novel Cold Mountain. I plan to begin working on another book and would use the fellowship
to provide the time and resources I need to do a complete job
of background research and to begin writing. The N.C. Arts Council
fellowship would be enormously helpful in allowing me to do the
new work much more thoroughly and efficiently and in a more timely
manner."
Charles Frazier has a Ph.D. in American Literature from the University
of South Carolina, an M.A. in English from Appalachian State University
and a B.A. in English from the University of North Carolina at
Chapel Hill. Mr. Frazier is self-employed as a writer and operator
of Pinecroft Ponies, a breeding and training farm for Welsh and
Connemara ponies. He lives in Raleigh, NC.
Postscript:
Because of the tremendous success of his first novel -- over 1,000,000
copies had sold as of December and movie rights were bought by
United Artists -- Mr. Frazier has decided to designate his fellowship
award to benefit other writers in North Carolina.
