Douglas Harling
Visual Artist
"Receiving a North Carolina Artist Fellowship has allowed me to
purchase tools, equipment, and raw materials. It has given me
a greater insight into the meaning and nature of my work. It has
afforded me the time to grow artistically and share experience
and expertise. The exploration and use of color and the use of
enamel fused to metal have been important parts of my artistic
growth over the past year. The Fellowship enabled me to purchase
a kiln and numerous supplies as well as the opportunity to travel
and learn the basics with two exceptional enamelists. I have enjoyed
the challenge of learning a new technique and increasing the complexity
of my work. The North Carolina Artist Fellowship has enabled me
to accomplish the goals I set for the grant year."
Douglas Harling has an M.F.A. from Southern Illinois University
and a B.A. from the University of North Carolina, Charlotte. He
lives in Greensboro, NC.
