Susan Brandeis (formerly Wilchins)
Visual Artist

"This Fellowship has helped defray the costs of removing myself from the art market while I 're-tool' as well as fund the necessary travel, study, supplies and materials to make it happen. I upgraded my loom, purchased storage containers and studio supplies related to production of future art work. I traveled to Oregon and collaborated with a drawing professor and photography professor on a project dealing with place, nature and geography as a subject matter for artwork. While I will not know the results for some time, the fortuitous coincidence of this fellowship with the opportunity for collaboration has propelled me in exactly the direction I wanted to go. I feel as though I have 'jump started' my work in a new direction of experimentation -- even if I'm not quite sure where it's going to take me."

Susan Brandeis has an M.F.A. from the University of Kansas, and an M.S. and B.A. from Indiana University. She is a professor at North Carolina State University and lives in Raleigh, NC.
