Joyce Blunk
Visual Artist
"The North Carolina Arts Council Visual Arts Fellowship has been
a major honor in my career. The grant has sustained my morale,
paid my studio expenses, and strengthened me to continue my work.
My box constructions deal with vivid life issues and preoccupations.
A central natural or man-made object or set of objects is sequestered,
often in a setting of serenity, and related items are arranged
in ways that exploit the symbolic meanings of the displayed articles
and their presentations. Painting (which often includes a distant
landscape) and surface buildup on the interior and exterior of
the boxes remind the viewer of the richness and the poignancy
of time's passage."
Joyce Blunk holds M.F.A., M.A. and B.A. degrees from the University
of Iowa. She lives in Asheville, NC.
