An Appalachian Evening is an award-winning concert and dinner series that takes place in a restored 1926 schoolhouse. The New North Carolina Ramblers were formed in the late 1960s by Kinney and Doug Rorer, nephews of Charlie Poole and Posey Rorer who were the original North Carolina Ramblers in the 1920s. Kinney Rorer plays the banjo in the old time 3 finger picking style of Charlie Poole, and Kirk Sutphin can play the fiddle with same graceful touch that Posey Rorer had. These fellows not only perform songs and tunes from the repertoire of Charlie Poole, but also from many other old time artists. Darren Moore and Jeremy Stephens bring a wide variety of Carter Family material to the group. Plan to come early for a traditional Appalachian Dinner served family style in our dining room (reservations required). Tickets go on sale June 1.
