Literary Artists

phati’tude Literary Magazine
phati’tude celebrates black history through literature from the Harlem Renaissance movement to today. Editors are now accepting submissions of poetry, short stories, interviews, essays and book reviews for the winter 2010 issue.

Visual Artists

Trio Art Gallery, Atlanta, Ga.
Trio Art Gallery seeks works from local, regional and national artists at various professional levels who demonstrate originality in expression, excellence in composition, mastery of their technique and craft, singular and unique creative vision, and commitment to their art. The gallery is currently seeking works that tell a story or have a story and reflect the styles of late the 19th and 20th centuries including abstract, impressionistic and expressionistic styles.

City of San Jose, Calif.
The City of San Jose’s Public Art Program and Department of Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services announce a request for qualifications for the Guadalupe River Trail Mammoth Public Art Project. The installation site is adjacent to the location of the 2005 discovery of the skeleton of “Lupe,” a Columbian mammoth, which is the focus for the project. Project budget is $150,000.

The Arts Council of New Orleans, La.
The Arts Council of New Orleans’ Percent for Art Program, in partnership with the New Orleans Public Library, announces several artist opportunities for four new branch libraries scheduled to open in 2011. This project is open to all qualified, professional artists living in the U.S. Budget per branch is $40,000.

City of Evanston, Ill.
The City of Evanston has issued a request for qualifications from artists or artistic teams for the Washington National TIF (National Tax Increment District) #4 Public Art Project. The project offers a unique opportunity to create public art located in the heart of downtown Evanston. The project area is urban in nature and densely developed. The city is seeking a creative plan for incorporating public art in this downtown setting and is open to considering projects in any artistic media.

City of Creve Coeur, Mo.
The City of Creve Coeur is looking for an artist or artist team to develop an innovative and unique permanent artwork installation for a new public transit bus shelter located on Olive Boulevard, a heavily traveled, significant corridor within the core business district of the city. Project budget is $27,000.

Town of Chapel Hill
The Town of Chapel Hill’s office of public arts has issued a call for entries for a curated exhibition entitled Local Histories: The Ground We Walk On. The call invites artists to engage with Alfredo Jaar's statement "Place cannot be global." Works should address issues of local histories: histories and institutions of communities, family, place; commemorative responses (such as memorials or monuments); heroes; folklore and urban legends; buried truths; traditions; memory/nostalgia; longing/loss; progress/development; the intersection of the local and global and social, legal, political events as they pertain to, influence and construct local histories. All visual art disciplines will be considered. The exhibition will take place mid-January through April 2011.

Prescott College, Prescott, Ariz.
Prescott College’s literary journal, Alligator Juniper, is holding its 2010 National Photography Contest. The journal seeks quality black-and-white photography for its 2011 issue. One winner will receive $500 and other finalists will be noted as such in the publication and paid in copies.

Commission on the Arts and Humanities, Washington, D.C.
The D.C. Commission on the Arts and Humanities seeks an artist or artist team with significant three-dimensional experience to design, fabricate and install permanent public artwork for the new Deanwood Recreation Center located in northeast D.C. This project should create a celebratory landmark that expresses the character, strength, vibrancy and historic heritage of the neighborhood. The permanent installation will generate and reinforce a sense of place within the community.

City of Phoenix, Ariz.
The Phoenix Office of Cultural Affairs requests qualifications from professional artists to work with the city, community and stakeholders to enhance the trail system for the Tres Rios Wetlands Project. Professional artists with demonstrated experience in creating earthworks, land art and environmental art should apply.

Waterloo Center for the Arts, Iowa
Waterloo Cultural and Arts Commission seeks to commission a site-specific sculptural installation of up to four works designed by an individual artist or team of artists/designers to be integrated into a memorial sculpture garden honoring First Lady Lou Henry Hoover and her Iowa roots. Budget for the project is $75,000, which will include all artist fees, fabrication, shipping/transportation, travel to Waterloo and installation costs.

Salisbury Sculpture Show, Salisbury
The Public Art Committee of the City of Salisbury is now accepting submittals for its 2011 sculpture show Discover What’s Outside. Stipends are paid to each selected artist; cash awards are given for “Best in Show” selections.

Hillsborough Arts Council
The Hillsborough Arts Council will present Hillsborough Sculpture Tour 2011 on Saturday, April 16, through Friday, Sept. 30, 2011. This will be the first time outdoor sculpture will be exhibited throughout downtown historic Hillsborough, N.C. Sculpture must be suitable for outdoor public display, stable and free-standing. Artists will be responsible for installing their own sculptures the week before the tour begins and remove them the week after the tour ends leaving the site in its original condition. A panel of professional judges will select six winning sculptures; each winner will receive an honorarium of $750.  Awards will also be given at the end of the tour. Entry fee applies.

Polk Museum of Art, Lakeland, Fla.
The Polk Museum of Art is accepting submissions for the 11th annual Florida Outdoor Sculpture Competition. Ten works will be selected for a one-year exhibition in three joined municipal parks in Winter Haven, Fla. Cash prizes will be awarded and an exhibition catalogue will be produced. Artists selected for the exhibition will receive a $1,000 honorarium to cover transportation, installation and de-installation of the sculptures. Entry fee applies.

Artsplosure, Raleigh
Artsplosure — The Raleigh Arts Festival invites artists to submit applications for its 32nd annual juried fine art and fine craft market, part of the Artsplosure spring arts festival Saturday, May 21, and Sunday, May 22, 2011, in downtown Raleigh. Artists selected to participate at Artsplosure will be eligible for $3,500 in prizes and have the opportunity to showcase and sell their work to an audience of up to 80,000.

Hillsborough Arts Council
The Hillsborough Arts Council announces a call for artists for the Hillsborough Downtown Art Crafts Show, a juried show that will offer original artwork and quality, handcrafted items for sale on the lawn of the Historic Alexander Dixon House serving as the Orange County Visitor’s Center. The show will take place Saturday, April 16, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Entry fee applies.

Wendell Chamber of Commerce
The Wendell Chamber of Commerce and the Wendell Woman's Club announce the third annual art exhibition, A Day at the Beach, Friday, Jan. 21, through Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011. The exhibition will showcase original fine art pieces that depict sites and sounds of the beach. It is open to N.C. artists over the age of 18. Work must be original and completed within the last two years. No photography, prints, crafts, three-dimensional sculptures or pottery will be accepted. Entry fee applies.

Lakewood Public Library, Lakewood, Ohio
The Lakewood Public Library Foundation is seeking qualifications from professional artists to create a permanent, site-specific piece of artwork outside its newly renovated and expanded main building. The artwork should be an iconic permanent piece of public art that embodies the spirit of the library and adds to the character of its vibrant and historic downtown business district location.

The Women’s Center, Chapel Hill
The Women’s Center is calling female artists ages 16 and older in N.C. to create and donate an anonymous mini work of art which will be for sale at the center’s annual event Friday, March 4, 2011. The identity of the artist will remain anonymous until the artwork is sold. Proceeds from the sale will benefit the programs and services of The Women’s Center.

The Next Picture Show, Dixon, Ill.
The Next Picture Show, a nonprofit fine art gallery in Dixon, Illinois, invites artists to enter an art competition in celebration of President Ronald Reagan’s 100th birthday in 2011. Entries must be a maximum of two paintings per artist in oil, acrylic or watercolor, no larger than 30" x 36" and must depict vistas from Reagan's ranch and/or images of the president on his 688 acre ranch.
