The N.C. Arts Council is pleased to share the following opportunities for artists that have recently been submitted to us. Please contact the organization listed if you have any questions.

The Arts Council does not endorse or recommend any specific opportunities, but provides this list for information only. We encourage artists to research each opportunity thoroughly before applying. Artist opportunities may be submitted to jennifer.huggins@ncdcr.gov.

North Carolina Arts Council
The N.C. Arts Council is accepting applications for the 2010–11 Artist Fellowship awards for visual arts, craft, film/video and choreography until Nov. 2. The fellowship award is $10,000.

General Arts Opportunities

DooR to DooR, UNC Hospitals
DooR to DooR, a healing arts program in UNC Hospitals, is looking for artists to perform for hospital patients, writers and storytellers to visit adult and child patient rooms and artists to teach in the psychiatric area for children and teens. Over the course of a year, nearly 200 professional artists share their art in public spaces and private rooms at UNC Hospitals through the DooR to DooR program.

Performing Artists

The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP)
The ASCAP Foundation is accepting applications for the Rudolf Nissim Prize, a $5,000 cash prize presented annually to an ASCAP concert composer for a work requiring a conductor that has not been performed professionally. A jury of conductors selects the winning score.

The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP)
The ASCAP Foundation Young Jazz Composer Awards are granted annually to encourage talented young jazz composers. Applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of the U.S. and must be under age 30 as of December 31, 2009.

The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP)
The Morton Gould Young Composer Awards encourage developing music creators during the earliest stages of their careers. Original concert music of any style will be considered. Cash prizes are awarded each year to composers who are under 30 years of age as of the deadline date.

Literary Artists

Lit Drift
Lit Drift, a blog, resource and community dedicated to the art and craft of storytelling in the 21st century, is now accepting submissions to be featured as a daily prompt and/or daily featured story. In both cases, Lit Drift is looking for a complete short story or poem to publish on their Web site at litdrift.com. The author would be credited along with a Web link.

North Carolina Writers' Network
The North Carolina Writers' Network has a new program called "Writing the New South" offering its members a platform to record and share their experiences and interpretations of living in North Carolina as the state changes dramatically. Network members can upload their poems, stories, essays or other submissions.

WCOM 103.5 FM, Carrboro
Carrboro Book Beat, a radio program for WCOM 103.5 FM in Carrboro, is looking for local (N.C.) authors to be guests on the air. Program hours are Mondays from 10–11 a.m.

Playwrights' Center, Minneapolis, MN
Playwrights' Center Jerome Fellowships are awarded annually, providing emerging American playwrights with funds and services to aid them in the development of their craft. Five $10,000 fellowships will be awarded in 2009–2010.

Imagining Heaven
Submissions are now being accepted for the upcoming anthology Imagining Heaven. Personal reflections—profound or humorous, traditional or outside the box—on how people of diverse faiths, cultures, ages and life experiences imagine heaven may be in prose or poetry. Previously published work will be considered. All proceeds from the sale of this book will benefit Hospice.

Southeast Regional Library, Garner
Southeast Regional Library (908 Seventh Ave, Garner) is accepting submissions for a rotating art exhibition.

Central Piedmont Community College, Charlotte
CPCC Annual Juried Recycled Art Exhibition is open to all media using recycled materials. Any CPCC student or professional artist using 75 percent recycled materials is eligible to submit work.

City of Phoenix, Ariz.
The Phoenix Office of Arts and Culture requests qualifications from professional artists to create a major outdoor artwork for the new Phoenix Biomedical Campus (PBC). The project is open to experienced professional artists worldwide. This is a highly visible opportunity for outdoor signature work(s) to be integrated into the Biomedical Campus and add to the landmark status of this key downtown site.

Coastal Carolina Artists and Crafters Guild, Jacksonville
The Coastal Carolina Artists and Crafters Guild and the Onslow Shrine Club are sponsoring a one-day Craft Fair and Car Show on Nov. 14. Artists are invited to exhibit and sell their work during this event. It will be held at Jacksonville High School, 1021 Henderson Drive.

McColl Center for Visual Art, Charlotte
McColl Center for Visual Art is seeking proposals from artists interested in exhibiting new or current work in six windows on 7th Street between North Church and North Tryon Streets in Charlotte, or two windows on 6th Street Hearst Tower. Windows are available for exhibition January–June 2010 or July 2010–January 2011. Two artists will be selected for a six-month period for each set of windows.

Smithtown Township Arts Council, St. James, N.Y.
The Smithtown Township Arts Council is now accepting entries for its Juried Fine Arts Exhibition to be held January 9–February 5, 2010, at the Mills Pond House Gallery. Cash prizes will be awarded. Entries must be submitted as 300-ppi jpeg files on CD only.

City of Wylie, Tex.
The Public Arts Advisory Board of the City of Wylie, Tex., seeks to commission an original, exterior, site-specific, functionally, philosophically and artistically integrated space(s) for the New Wylie Municipal Complex. The project(s) are open to all professional artists age 18 and over located in the continental U.S.

Lake Norman Art League, Davidson
The 2009 Small Works Exhibit and Sale will take place Dec. 3–5 during Christmas in Davidson. Artists are invited to bring up to three works to hang. All media is welcome and all works must be for sale. Size restrictions and other limitations apply. Cash and prizes will be awarded for viewer's choice favorites, as voted on during Christmas in Davidson.

University of North Carolina at Asheville
Drawing Discourse, the first annual exhibition in contemporary drawing hosted by UNC-Asheville, is open to all artists 18 years or older living in the U.S. and any two-dimensional media applicable to the practice of drawing, including but not limited to traditional drawing media.

The Salisbury Sculpture Show, Salisbury
The Salisbury Sculpture Show has issued a call for entries for its 2010 show. Exhibiting artists will receive a stipend, and three sculptures will be purchased for the City of Salisbury's new Fiber to the Home Customer Service Center. The exhibition will run April 1–Dec. 31, 2010.

Nathan D. Rosen Museum, Boca Raton, Fla.
The Nathan D. Rosen Museum Gallery invites artists to submit entries to the 2010 juried art show. Original works of two- or three-dimensional art will be juried and exhibited Feb. 28–March 26, 2010. Awards include best in show, craft art award and three awards of merit.

Somerville Arts Council, Somerville, Mass.
The Somerville Arts Council invites sculptors, landscape designers, architects, welders, sound artists and artists who work with light to submit work for a 2010 sculpture exhibit scheduled in Union Square. The first installment will take place in January 2010 with four subsequent installments—one each month through May 2010.

University of Florida, Gainesville, Fla.
The Art in State Buildings Program at the University of Florida is pleased to announce a public art opportunity at the new Veterinary Education and Clinical Research Center (VECRC). Specific artist criteria and guidelines apply.

Wichita Center for the Arts, Wichita, Kans.
The Pastel National 2010 at The Wichita Center for the Arts is open to artists living and working in North America. Prizes totaling $7,500 will be awarded. Only traditional pastel-based media on paper or board will be accepted. The exhibition runs March 19–May 16, 2010.

Creative Divergents
Creative Divergents is now accepting submissions for its inaugural online competition and showcase. Anyone and everyone from around the world is welcome to participate. All media, styles and subjects are welcome. The winning submission(s) will receive a cash award and will be determined by creative vision, innovation, potential to engage an audience, presentation and overall impression.

The Sumter County Gallery of Art (SCGA) is now accepting exhibition proposals for its 2010 exhibition schedule. The newly announced Artist Business Career Development Grant totals $12,000, establishing it as one of the primary, international, monetary-support grants for visual artists. The grant is open to any visual artist worldwide, of any background, working in any media and at any stage in their career.

Chowan University, Murfreesboro
Chowan University is seeking artwork in a variety of media for a national juried exhibition to be held March 1–April 1, 2010. The Department of Visual Art faculty will jury the exhibition.

Artsplosure, Raleigh
Artsplosure—The Raleigh Arts Festival invites artists to submit applications for its 31st annual juried fine art and fine craft market, part of the Artsplosure spring arts festival May 15–16, 2010, in downtown Raleigh. Artists selected to participate at Artsplosure will be eligible for $3,500 in prizes and have the opportunity to showcase and sell their work to an audience of up to 75,000.

Strange Beauty Film Festival, Durham
The Strange Beauty Film Festival is an annual event showcasing short films (30 minutes or less), open to domestic and international filmmakers. Submissions accepted on DVD only. The 2010 festival will be held January 22–23.
