The N.C. Arts Council is pleased to share the following opportunities for artists that have recently been submitted to us. Please contact the organization listed if you have any questions.

North Carolina Arts Council
The N.C. Arts Council will hold a workshop for artists interested in applying for its visual, craft and film/video artist fellowship grants Wednesday, Oct. 14 at 8 p.m. at the Penland School of Crafts in Penland, N.C. Senior Program Director for Artists and Organizations, Jeff Pettus, will talk about the grants process, offer tips on submitting competitive applications and discuss other resources available to N.C. artists through the Arts Council and other sources.

North Carolina Arts Council
The N.C. Arts Council is accepting applications for the 2010–11 Artist Fellowship awards for visual arts, craft, film/video and choreography until Nov. 2. The fellowship award is $10,000.

General Arts Opportunities

Fort Awesome School of Rock, Lansing
The Fort Awesome School of Rock, an art enclave in Lansing, N.C., invites all artists to participate in the revitalization of a town, the building of an art community and the preservation of a historic building. To date, two filmmaker/photographers have renovated a large portion of a two-story historic school building, yet there are still ten spaces available. Requirements are simple: rehabilitate the space into gallery/vacation living space, show your art at least once a year and help build community. Acceptance is based on interviews with artists.

North Carolina Shakespeare Festival, High Point
Open call for auditions for A Christmas Carol will take place Oct. 9–10 at NCSF's Spirit Center campus, 807 W. Ward Aveue in High Point. Call Back Auditions, if needed, will be Friday, Oct. 16.

Moore On Stage, Pinehurst
Moore On Stage announces auditions for Dearly Departed and Oklahoma! Auditions will be held Oct. 11 (Dearly Departed) and Oct. 17–18 (Oklahoma!). Please bring headshot and resume to the audition. Scripts will be available for perusal 30 minutes before auditions. Oklahoma! auditions require sheet music (accompanist will be provided) or CD and dancing shoes if you are a dancer.

Davidson College, Davidson
Davidson College invites distinguished poets to apply for a one-semester, nonrenewable professorship, the McGee Professor of Creative Writing, for appointment either in the fall of 2010 or the spring of 2011. Responsibilities include teaching two poetry writing courses, offering one public reading and advising two honors students.

Visual Artists

Raleigh-Durham International Airport
A request for artist qualifications has been issued for a public art project at the baggage claim area of International Terminal 2 at RDU International Airport. This project is open to artists residing in the 13 counties that make up the Triangle region of N.C. (Chatham, Durham, Franklin, Granville, Harnett, Johnston, Lee, Moore, Orange, Person, Vance, Wake and Warren) and who are at least 18 years of age. Artist teams are eligible to apply, including artists from multiple disciplines.

The Scroungers Center for Reusable Art Parts (SCRAP), San Francisco, Calif.
SCRAP is seeking artists to submit works for consideration for its Third Annual Art Exhibition ReVisions: New Creations from scrap. Work submitted must be in some way made from scraps, leftovers, castoffs, found, repurposed or recycled materials (not necessarily from the SCRAP depot).

Marianna Black Library, Bryson City
The Marianna Black Library is sponsoring an amateur photography contest showcasing the best photographs of Swain County, N.C. Photographs of buildings, rivers, landscapes, nature or sports in Swain County are accepted. This contest is open to amateurs (anyone who does not receive all or a major part of their income from the sale of their photographs). Contestants do not have to reside in Swain County.

Carolina Designer Craftmen, Raleigh
Triangle-area high school artists are invited to submit their work for exhibition in the Carolina Designer Craftsmen Guild's 40th Annual Fine Craft + Design Show at the N.C. State Fairgrounds during Thanksgiving weekend (Nov. 27–29). An estimated 20–30 submissions will be accepted for the exhibition.

Cameron Art Museum, Wilmington
The Cameron Art Museum is calling for architectural folly designs by architects and artists. Winning designers will construct their projects on the museum grounds (Pyramid Park). Structures will remain on view for six months. Limit three designs per entrant.
This project is organized in conjunction with the museum's recently opened exhibition,
GWATHMEY SIEGEL: Inspiration and Transformation, on view through January 10, 2010.
