The N.C. Arts Council is pleased to share the following opportunities for artists that have recently been submitted to us. Please contact the organization listed if you have any questions.

Two Opportunities from the North Carolina Arts Council

Artist Fellowship Awards
The N.C. Arts Council is accepting applications for the 2011–2012 Artist Fellowship awards for poetry, prose writers, songwriters, composers, playwrights and screenwriters. The fellowship award is $10,000.

Grant Workshops
The N.C. Arts Council will hold two workshops for composers and songwriters interested in applying for its 2011–2012 Artist Fellowship award. The workshops will be held Wednesday, Oct. 6, from noon to 2 p.m. and from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Greensboro Cultural Center in downtown Greensboro, 200 North Davie Street. Andrea Lawson, performing arts director, N.C. Arts Council, will talk about the grant process, offer tips on submitting competitive applications and discuss other resources available to composers and songwriters through the Arts Council.

General Artist Opportunities

Glendale Area Temporary Exhibitions, Los Angeles, Calif.

GATE invites emerging and established artists to submit their qualifications to exhibit work in temporary exhibition spaces and window displays. Professional artists and artist groups working in all media (including performance) are encouraged to apply. Artists seeking to execute innovative site-specific projects are particularly encouraged to apply. This series of curated temporary exhibitions will take place in downtown Glendale beginning in fall 2010 and continuing through summer 2011.

Regional Arts & Culture Council, Portland, Ore.

The Regional Arts & Culture Council in Portland, Oregon, invites multidisciplinary artist teams in visual, performing, literary and/or media arts to submit qualifications for a project with the Multnomah County Bridge Section which operates six bridges that cross the Willamette River in the Portland area. Artists are encouraged to create work in any media that highlights or comments on some aspect of the bridges in general — real, imaginary or metaphorical — while going beyond strictly literal representation or documentation.

Gardner-Webb University, Boiling Springs

The Broad River Review, the literary magazine of Gardner-Webb University, welcomes submissions of original and unpublished fiction, poetry and creative nonfiction for its next annual issue to be published in late April 2011.

Visual Artists

American Tobacco Campus, Durham

The American Tobacco Campus is a beautifully renovated former tobacco factory that now hosts Fortune 500 companies, restaurants and cultural events in Durham. More than a million people visit American Tobacco each year for Broadway shows, concerts, sporting events, restaurants and work. The campus is seeking N.C. visual artists to exhibit in the lobby of one of its buildings. Artists should have experience with exhibiting their own work and have enough new or rarely seen work to fill the gallery, including wall space of approximately 500 square feet. Exhibitions will begin in 2011.

Town of Carrboro

The Town of Carrboro invites artists to submit original artwork for exhibitions at Carrboro Town Hall and the Century Center. Exhibition space is open to artists with original works in all fine arts categories, including painting, pastel, collage, mixed media, drawing and photography. Exhibiting artists will have the opportunity to participate in the Second Friday Art Walk.

Adolph and Esther Gottlieb Foundation, New York, N.Y.

The Gottlieb Foundation invites artists working in a mature phase of their careers (at least 10 years of experience) who need interim financial assistance because of an unforeseen catastrophic incident to apply through the Emergency Assistance Program. Artists must work in the disciplines of painting, sculpture or printmaking. Application forms are available throughout the year and may be requested by telephone. Maximum awards are $10,000.

One Life International Photography Competition, New York, N.Y.

The One Life International Photography Competition is open to all backgrounds, styles and perspectives. Photographers are invited to submit work illuminating his or her  perspective.
