The N.C. Arts Council is pleased to share the following opportunities for artists that have recently been submitted to us. Please contact the organization listed if you have any questions.
The Arts Council does not endorse or recommend any specific opportunities, but provides this list for information only. We encourage artists to research each opportunity thoroughly before applying. Artist opportunities may be submitted to jennifer.huggins@ncdcr.gov.

Literary Arts
The Writers' Workshop, Asheville
The Short Fiction Writing Contest sponsored by The Writers' Workshop is open to any writer. Submit a short story or chapter of a novel of 5,000 words or less. Multiple entries are accepted. All work must be unpublished.

2010 Piedmont Laureate
Applications for the position of 2010 Piedmont Laureate are now being accepted from novelists currently residing in Alamance, Durham, Johnston, Orange and Wake counties. This program is dedicated to building a literary bridge for residents to come together and celebrate the art of writing, enriching the lives of all our citizens.

The Town of Cary
The Town of Cary is seeking artists for 2010 exhibitions at Page Walker Arts & History Center, Jordan Hall Arts Center and other facilities around Cary. Artists working in any medium are invited to submit an application.

Artspace, Raleigh
Artspace is seeking innovative proposals from artists working in 2D or 3D media for solo and/or group shows. We have been recognized for presenting award-winning exhibitions in three exhibition galleries that feature regional, national, and international artists. Proposals are being sought for exhibitions through 2011.

Western Wake Artist Studio Tour
The Western Wake Artist Studio Tour is open to artists from Cary, Apex, Holly Springs and Fuquay-Varina. The tour invites the public into your studio space to take a peek at the creative process April 17–18, 2010.

N.C. Arts Council and Duke Homestead, Durham
Craft artists are invited to sell their wares at the Tobacco Harvest and Hornworm Arts Festival which will take place September 12 at Duke Homestead. It is free to participate in this outdoor festival. Artists will need to supply their own tables, tents and other set-up materials. Space availability is limited. Artists will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. All efforts will be made to ensure that craft forms are equally represented.

Artspace and Visual Art Exchange, Raleigh
Two premiere Raleigh visual arts organizations, Artspace and Visual Art Exchange, in partnership with the City of Raleigh Arts Commission, invite North Carolina-based artists/teams to submit work for a temporary exhibition on Raleigh's new City Plaza sculpture pedestals. Artists selected will be paid a stipend of $2,000.

Irving Art Association, Irving, Texas
The Annual IAA Wildlife Art Show is held each fall at the Center for the Arts in Jaycee Park in Irving, Texas. The competition is open to artists over the age of 18 nationwide. Cash and merchandise awards totaling over $3,000 will be awarded. All entries must be wildlife creatures, no domestic pets.

Tilt Gallery, Phoenix, Arizona
The 3rd Annual "Photography Re-Imagined" juried exhibition is open to national and international artists. All prints using an alternative or historical process are eligible and subject matter is open.

SlowArt, Hudson, New York
SlowArt Productions presents the annual group thematic exhibition "A Show of Heads," open to all artists working in any media. This exhibition will include all interpretations and portrayals of the human head, from the traditional to the abstract and conceptual, and will be held at the Limner Gallery from Nov. 7–Dec. 5.

Ventura Art Festival, Ventura, California
The Ventura Chamber of Commerce presents its annual fine art juried festival. The Ventura Art Festival is open to the following media: painting, sculpture, photography, drawing, textile/fabric, jewelry and mixed media. The festival will take place November 14 in downtown Ventura.

Artspace Artists Association, Raleigh
The Artspace Artists Association is an organization for artists working together to promote growth of individual artists, to provide an environment of interaction with other artists and with the public, and to foster the mission of Artspace. Professional artists interested in becoming a member of the Artspace Artists Association must be juried in.

Matthews Chamber of Commerce
The 24th Annual Matthews ArtFest is a fine art and master craft show produced and sponsored by the Matthews Chamber of Commerce. The 2009 ArtFest will be held September 26–27 on the green at Matthews Station. All artists who take part in the show are judged by qualified judges and are eligible to receive cash prizes as follows: Best in Show, Juror's Choice, Best Booth Presentation, Merit Awards and Honorable Mention.

Carolina's Got Art!, Charlotte
Carolina's Got Art! is hosting a juried exhibition of North and South Carolina artists October 2–30. Acceptance into the exhibition will allow artists, both amateur and professional, to offer their work for sale and to compete for prizes and awards. After the exhibition is selected and prizes have been awarded, a second jurying process will take place to select work to be featured in the Elder Gallery in Charlotte during the month of November.

Utrecht Art Supplies
Utrecht Art Supplies is proud to announce its 60th Anniversary Art Competition in appreciation for the patronage of artists over the past six decades. All artists are invited to submit works created in oil, acrylic, watercolor or mixed media. Winning entries will be judged on quality, creativity and originality. Editors of American Artist, Utrecht Resident Artist and artists from the Ridgewood Art Institute will serve as jurors.

Raleigh City Museum
Raleigh City Museum announces its juried exhibition "Abstractations: Capital City Inspirations and Observations." The exhibition is open to Raleigh artists working in any medium on the theme of the City of Raleigh.

Ely International Open Art Competition
Visual contemporary artists from around the world, working in any medium, are invited to submit their entries for an exhibition to be held in November 2009 at The Long Gallery at The Old Palace in the beautiful and historic city of Ely, in Cambridgeshire, England.

The Miami University Young Painters Competition
The 11th Annual Miami University Young Painters Competition is open to artists ages 25–35, and works should be representational realism paintings. Awards include the $10,000 William and Dorothy Yeck Award.

The Chesapeake Bay Art Association, Norfolk, Va.
The Chesapeake Bay Art Association invites artists to participate in the 47th Annual Outdoor Art Show at Ocean View Beach Park in Norfolk, Va., October 10–11. At least $2,000 in prizes will be awarded.

Allied Artists of America
Allied Artists of America's 96th Annual National Exhibition is open to all artists: oil, watercolor, pastel, graphics, and sculpture. Up to $23,000 in awards in cash and medals will be presented. Slide or jpeg entries accepted. Exhibition runs November 13–December 1 at the National Arts Club Galleries in New York, N.Y.

Centennial Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition, Hattiesburg, Miss.
The University of Southern Mississippi is celebrating its centennial in 2010. As part of this once-in-a-lifetime celebration, Southern Miss is hosting a national juried competition. This show will showcase the best of large-scale, contemporary sculpture. In October 2009, five works will be selected by jury to be situated in an outdoor, public setting on campus. Artists may enter up to three works for consideration.

Made in the U.S.A. (MUSA), Raleigh
Made in the U.S.A. (MUSA) is an art exhibition in a furniture factory that fell prey to economic pressure and closed its doors in 2002. MUSA examines the after-effects of globalization and is looking for interpretive, visual art that will allow patrons to reflect on what it means to be "made" in the U.S.A. We are seeking submissions for 2D, 3D, film, and proposed installations for MUSA in Raleigh, N.C.
