Literary Arts

The Writers' Workshop, Asheville
The Short Fiction Writing Contest sponsored by The Writers' Workshop is open to any writer. Submit a short story or chapter of a novel of 5,000 words or less. Multiple entries are accepted. All work must be unpublished.

Applications for the position of 2010 Piedmont Laureate are now being accepted from novelists currently residing in Alamance, Durham, Johnston, Orange and Wake counties. N.C. Arts Council and Duke Homestead, Durham
Craft artists are invited to sell their wares at the Tobacco Harvest and Hornworm Arts Festival which will take place September 12 at Duke Homestead. It is free to participate in this outdoor festival. Artists will need to supply their own tables, tents and other set-up materials. Space availability is limited. Artists will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. All efforts will be made to ensure that craft forms are equally represented.

Artspace and Visual Art Exchange, Raleigh
Two premiere Raleigh visual arts organizations, Artspace and Visual Art Exchange, in partnership with the City of Raleigh Arts Commission, invite North Carolina-based artists/teams to submit work for a temporary exhibition on Raleigh's new City Plaza sculpture pedestals. Artists selected will be paid a stipend of $2,000.

Irving Art Association, Irving, Texas
The Annual IAA Wildlife Art Show is held each fall at the Center for the Arts in Jaycee Park in Irving, Texas. The competition is open to artists over the age of 18 nationwide. Cash and merchandise awards totaling over $3,000 will be awarded. All entries must be wildlife creatures, no domestic pets.

Matthews Chamber of Commerce
The 24th Annual Matthews ArtFest is a fine art and master craft show produced and sponsored by the Matthews Chamber of Commerce. The 2009 ArtFest will be held September 26–27 on the green at Matthews Station. All artists who take part in the show are judged by qualified judges and are eligible to receive cash prizes as follows: Best in Show, Juror's Choice, Best Booth Presentation, Merit Awards and Honorable Mention.

Carolina's Got Art!, Charlotte
Carolina's Got Art! is hosting a juried exhibition of North and South Carolina artists October 2–30. Acceptance into the exhibition will allow artists, both amateur and professional, to offer their work for sale and to compete for prizes and awards. After the exhibition is selected and prizes have been awarded, a second jurying process will take place to select work to be featured in the Elder Gallery in Charlotte during the month of November.

Utrecht Art Supplies is proud to announce its 60th Anniversary Art Competition in appreciation for the patronage of artists over the past six decades. Centennial Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition, Hattiesburg, Miss.
The University of Southern Mississippi is celebrating its centennial in 2010. As part of this once-in-a-lifetime celebration, Southern Miss is hosting a national juried competition. This show will showcase the best of large-scale, contemporary sculpture. In October 2009, five works will be selected by jury to be situated in an outdoor, public setting on campus. Artists may enter up to three works for consideration.

Made in the U.S.A. (MUSA), Raleigh
Made in the U.S.A. (MUSA) is an art exhibition in a furniture factory that fell prey to economic pressure and closed its doors in 2002. MUSA examines the after-effects of globalization and is looking for interpretive, visual art that will allow patrons to reflect on what it means to be "made" in the U.S.A. We are seeking submissions for 2D, 3D, film, and proposed installations for MUSA in Raleigh, N.C.
