The N.C. Arts Council is pleased to share the following opportunities for artists that have recently been submitted to us. Please contact the organization listed if you have any questions.

General Artist Opportunities
Durham Arts Council: CenterFest 2009
Call for visual and performing artist applications. In 2009, the Durham Arts Council celebrates the 36th Annual CenterFest Arts Festival. CenterFest is the longest running juried outdoor arts festival in North Carolina and the largest arts and community festival in Durham. CenterFest showcases over 150 juried visual and performing artists from across the country and provides visitors with great food, diverse entertainment, and educational activities for families.

Grand Canyon National Park
The Artist-in-Residence Program for 2009–2010 at Grand Canyon National Park offers professional artists (writers, composers, visual and performing artists) the opportunity to spend three weeks in housing provided by the National Park Service at either the North or South Rim of Grand Canyon. In exchange for the adventure of living and working in a national park, the resident artist has the opportunity to create works that generate understanding and dialogue about the need to preserve this national treasure—one of the seven natural wonders of the world.

Visual Artists
The Pollock-Krasner Foundation, Inc.
The Pollock-Krasner Foundation's dual criteria for grants are artistic merit and financial need, whether professional, personal or both. The Foundation's mission is to aid individuals internationally who have worked as professional artists over a significant period of time. The Foundation welcomes applications from visual artists who are painters, sculptors and artists who work on paper, including printmakers. Applications are accepted on an on-going basis.

City of Raleigh: Moore Square
The City of Raleigh is hosting a community open call for ideas to redesign downtown's Moore Square. Ideas will be accepted at a scheduled session on June 27 at Chavis Community Center, 505 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. from noon to 4 p.m.

SculptureCenter, Long Island City, NY
The In Practice project series supports artists in creating new work for exhibition at SculptureCenter. Artists are invited to submit proposals for projects and installations to be presented in January of 2010. SculptureCenter seeks proposals that offer new ways of considering sculpture or broadening the understanding of the discipline and how it can intersect with installation, architecture, performance and other media.

Visual Overture Magazine
Visual Overture magazine, a quarterly publication that covers the Southern Atlantic Region, is seeking emerging professional artists in a variety of media for a two-page spread of their work.

Visual Art Exchange, Raleigh
The 20th Annual N.E.W. Show is Visual Art Exchange's most anticipated juried exhibition of the year, attracting artists from across the region to compete for inclusion and prizes. All works featured in this exhibition have never been exhibited before and were completed within one year of the entry deadline. The N.E.W. Show represents a cross section of the newest, most innovative work in North Carolina. This show is open to two- and three-dimensional works of art executed in any media.

Festival in the Park, Charlotte
Since 1964, Festival in the Park has been bringing popular and eclectic music, arts and crafts, and family entertainment to Charlotte residents and visitors from around the South. Exhibit spaces are awarded based on the quality and variety of the exhibitor pool. The 45th Festival in the Park will be held September 24–27.

The Beehive Salon, Carrboro
Call for artists: "Mohawks & Mullets" exhibition. Artists are wanted to participate in an August exhibition open to all artistic representations of mullets and Mohawks. This exhibition will be held at The Beehive Salon, 102 E Weaver St, Carrboro, N.C.

Midtown "Plein Air" Art Competition, Raleigh
Submission for the first Midtown Plein Air Art Competition at North Hills continues through July 28. The competition will culminate in an art festival scheduled August 9. Each submitted painting will be displayed at North Hills and will be judged by a panel of jurors on Friday, August 7 and Saturday, August 8. More than $2,000 will be awarded in prizes.

Caldwell Arts Council, Caldwell County
Caldwell Arts Council will issue the Caldwell Public Art Award to one artist for a one-year outdoor installation in Caldwell county from September 2009 to September 2010. Award includes a $2,000 stipend.

K Space Contemporary, Corpus Christi, TX
K Space Contemporary is accepting entries for the 3rd Coast National non-thematic juried exhibition of contemporary art. Artists must be at least 18 years of age and living in the U.S. to be eligible. All visual art forms and media are acceptable for the exhibition scheduled Oct. 17–Nov. 28, 2009. Cash awards.
