Artist Opportunities
The N.C. Arts Council is pleased to share the following opportunities for artists that have recently been submitted to us. Please contact the organization listed if you have any questions.
The Arts Council does not endorse or recommend any specific opportunities, but provides this list for information only. We encourage artists to research each opportunity thoroughly before applying. Artist opportunities may be submitted to jennifer.huggins@ncdcr.gov.

General Artist Opportunities
N.C. Department of Cultural Resources
Spaces are still available at numerous state historic sites and museums for artists to exhibit and sell their work this summer during 2nd Saturdays: History, Heritage, Arts & Fun. The next deadline is May 31 for the July 10 event.
We encourage local arts councils to share these promotions with artists in your area. The 2nd Saturdays events are scheduled June 12, July 10 and August 14. The event time varies at each site but is generally 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Visual artists can use these opportunities to sell their work and there is no cost to participate. At most sites artists retain 100 percent of their sales. Artists are responsible for providing their own tables, tents and displays.
Please note that most participating sites encourage all types of artist to register even though specific historical and cultural themes have been developed.

General Artists
City of Raleigh Arts Commission
Nominations are now being accepted for the 2010 Raleigh Medal of Arts award. Nominations can be made for individuals and groups exemplifying lifetime artistic excellence or support in the Raleigh area.

Visual Artists
Dalton Gallery, Rock Hill, S.C.
Dalton Gallery is currently accepting proposals for 2011 exhibitions. Send artist statement, bio, resume and 10 to 15 JPEGS representative of the work to be shown to Michael Gentry, Arts Council of York County, P.O. Box 2797, Rock Hill S.C. 29732. Additional support material is welcome.

Craven Arts Council and Gallery, New Bern
The Craven Arts Council and Gallery presents the 2010 New Bern Art and Wine Festival to be held in the New Bern Riverfront Convention Center in historic downtown New Bern Thursday, Aug. 26, through Saturday, Aug. 28. All original fine art and fine craft is eligible, including, but not limited to, jewelry, painting, drawing, mixed media,
photography, sculpture, pottery, fiber arts and furniture. Sixty-four booth spaces are available. The Craven Arts Council and Gallery advisory committee will select artists.

The Arts Council of Fayetteville/Cumberland County
Arts Alive at 4th Friday is a monthly event in downtown Fayetteville where juried artists can exhibit and sell their original works. The event takes place on Maxwell Street from 6 to 10 p.m. on the fourth Friday of each month. Artists interested in participating must first submit an application for jurying and, if accepted, a booth application must be submitted to reserve a space at the event.

Métamatic Research Initiative, Amsterdam
The Métamatic Research Initiative is launching a call for entries to commission six individual artworks in line with its mission to stimulate research into ideas stemming from the work of the artist Jean Tinguely. The initiative welcomes proposals from visual artists working in all disciplines.

Grant Park Summer Shade Festival, Atlanta, Ga.
The 8th Annual Summer Shade Festival is a two-day celebration featuring art, music, food, a 5K run, children's activities and more. It takes place in Atlanta’s oldest public park Saturday, Aug. 28, and Sunday, Aug. 29. There is a juried and a non-juried artist market area.

SPARKcon, Raleigh (fashionSPARK)
SPARKcon, a Triangle-wide celebration of creativity in the arts, business, technology and culture, announces a call for Triangle area fashion designers for fashionSPARK, the largest annual fashion show in The Triangle, on Friday, Sept. 17, in downtown Raleigh. Designers will be selected by a juried process.

Metro Arts in Transit, St. Louis, Mo.
Metro Arts in Transit is currently seeking qualifications from artists for a number of new public art projects. Metro has received federal stimulus funding, known as the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), and one percent has been dedicated to Metro Arts in Transit for public art.

SPARKcon, Raleigh (designSPARK)
SPARKcon is a Triangle-wide celebration of creativity in the arts, business, technology and culture, and designSPARK is a natural addition to the event. designSPARK announces a call for architects, graphic designers, industrial designers, interior designers, furniture designers and landscape architects to showcase their work in a juried event Friday, Sept. 17, through Sunday, Sept. 19 in downtown Raleigh.

Arts & Science Council, Charlotte
The Arts & Science Council is seeking proposals for public art in the new Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Providence Police Division Building. The proposed focal point for public art will be the public lobby area entered from North Wendover Road. Opportunities include designs for ceramic, stone or terrazzo flooring. This call is open to all local and regional artists.

The Arts & Culture Alliance of Greater Knoxville, Tenn.
The Arts & Culture Alliance of Greater Knoxville announces a call for entries for Top Choice 2010, a juried exhibition developed to allow regional artists to compete and display work at the Emporium Center in downtown Knoxville from Friday, Aug. 6 through Friday, Aug. 27.

San Francisco Arts Commission
The San Francisco Arts Commission is seeking an artist and architect/landscape architect team to develop a proposal for a tribute to the military veterans who have fought for their county. The memorial will be located in Memorial Court and focus on the octagonal area that contains the consecrated soil from battlefields where Americans have shed blood. There is a strong interest in incorporating a water feature in the design.

City of Raleigh Arts Commission
The City of Raleigh Arts Commission invites artists and independent curators living and/or working in Durham, Orange or Wake County to submit applications for the 2011–2012 exhibitions at the Block Gallery (located in Raleigh's municipal building), and for the Block2 Street Video Series (Urban Design Center).

Louise Jones Brown Gallery, Duke University, Durham
The Duke University Union Visual Arts Committee offers a professional gallery space
for four to six week solo shows in the Louise Jones Brown Gallery in the Bryan Center on the West Campus of Duke University. Applications are now being accepted for exhibitions during the 2010–2011 academic year. Local artists are given precedence.

ArtInPlace, Charlottesville, Va.
ArtInPlace invites artists to submit large sculptures to install along the highways or along Schenk's Branch Greenway for one year. A $1,500 stipend is awarded to each of 10 selected artists.

The Arts Council of Fayetteville/Cumberland County
Celebrate our community's diverse, multicultural population by participating in the 32nd annual International Folk Festival Saturday, Sept. 25, and Sunday, Sept. 26. There will be a juried contest with cash awards totaling $1,000 for best original handmade art or craft items being sold. Exhibitors are encouraged to demonstrate their art or craft.

Greenville Museum of Art (N.C.)
The Greenville Museum of Art is hosting the annual Artist Association Juried Exhibition Thursday, July 29, through Sunday, Aug. 29. The exhibition is open to all artists 18 years of age and older who reside in Pitt, Beaufort, Craven, Edgecombe, Greene, Lenoir, Martin or Wilson counties. Both two- and three-dimensional works are accepted.
Deadline: Artwork will be accepted at the museum July 6 through July 8.

Crealdé School of Art, Winter Park, Fla.
The Crealdé School of Art announces a call to artists for its exhibition The Art of Hope: Commemorating the First African American U.S. President, Barack Obama. Visual artists of all ages may apply from the southeastern United States: Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, North Carolina and South Carolina. The exhibition is scheduled Friday, Oct. 8, through Monday, Jan. 17, 2011.
