The N.C. Arts Council is pleased to share the following opportunities for artists that have recently been submitted to us. Please contact the organization listed if you have any questions.

General Artist Opportunities
The Kresge Foundation, Troy, Mich.
The Kresge Foundation announces Arts and Culture Facility Investment and Building Reserves grants of up to $1 million to be awarded to arts nonprofits working to strengthen their long-term financial health.

Performing Arts/Composers
North Carolina Dance Festival, Greensboro
The N.C. Dance Festival is now accepting applications from choreographers for the 2011–2012 festival tour. The festival travels to five communities within the state. Participating artists will perform the same choreographic work at each site. Works are selected by a blind review process of submitted DVDs.

First Nations Composer Initiative, St. Paul, Minn.
The Common Ground Grant Program funds American Indian, Alaskan native and native Hawaiian musicians who are strongly dedicated to their art, who show artistic merit and who propose an excellent project. Composers, performers and sound artists working in diverse genres/mediums are encouraged to apply.

Etant donnés, New York, N.Y.
Etant donnés: The French-American Fund for the Performing Arts is dedicated to encouraging French-American cooperation in theater in the United States and in France. Grants of up to $25,000 are available for American nonprofit institutions producing or presenting theater tours, residencies or translations either of contemporary French playwrights or with French theater professionals.

Princess Grace Foundation, New York, N.Y.
The Princess Grace Foundation is accepting applications for the 2011 Princess Grace Awards in theater, playwriting, dance performance and choreography. Theater awards are offered in the form of scholarships, apprenticeships and fellowships. The playwriting award includes a residency at New Dramatists Inc. and an opportunity for the winning play to be licensed and published by Samuel French Inc. Dance performance awards are offered in the form of scholarships and fellowships. Choreography awards offer emerging choreographers the opportunity to create a new work with organizations with which they have little experience.

Literary Artists/Playwrights
Main Street Rag Publishing Company, Charlotte
Main Street Rag is accepting submissions for its annual poetry book award. Writers are asked to submit between 48 and 84 pages of poetry, no more than one poem per page. A prize of $1,000, publication by Main Street Rag and 50 author copies are given annually for a poetry collection. Entry fee applies.

Brighton Community of Writers, Brighton, U.K.
Brighton Community of Writers announces its flash fiction writing contest. Writers submit up to 250 words on one of five pre-selected themes. Stories should be original, fictional and make the reader want to take in every word. No entry fee. Cash prizes and online publication will be awarded to up to 10 winners.

The ArtsCenter, Carrboro
ArtsCenter Stage announces a call for submissions for the 10th annual 10 By 10 in the Triangle, an international festival of new 10-minute plays. A panel of judges will select 10 plays to showcase in The ArtsCenter's Mainstage Theatre Friday, July 8, through Sunday, July 17.

Finishing Line Press, Georgetown, Ky.
Finishing Line Press has issued a call for manuscripts for the 2011 New Women's Voices Chapbook Competition. The contest is open to women who have never published a full-length poetry collection. Previous chapbook publication does not disqualify. Multiple submissions are accepted. The top 10 finalists will be offered publication. Entry fee applies.

Carolina Woman Magazine, Chapel Hill
The Carolina Woman Magazine writing contest is open to any Carolina Woman reader in the Triangle area. Entries of short fiction, poetry or nonfiction essays under 2,000 words will be considered. Winners’ stories, poems and essays will be published in the April 2011 issue of Carolina Woman.

Brighton Community of Writers, Brighton, U.K.
Brighton Community of Writers is accepting entries for its short story contest. Writers may submit up to 3,000 words on any theme. Cash prizes will be awarded. Winning stories may also be published on the organization’s website as well as recorded for broadcast on Brighton’s Coastway Hospital Radio. Entry fee applies.

North Carolina Writers’ Network, Winston-Salem
Submissions are now being accepted for the 2011 Randall Jarrell Poetry Competition. The contest accepts one-poem submissions; multiple entries are allowed. The winner receives $200, publication in The Crucible literary journal and an invitation to read his or her poetry at UNC Greensboro’s Founders Day activities. Entry fee applies.

Anthology Writing Project
Two writers and educators seek essays about craft and the writing process by women who span different generations. The goal is to create an anthology that will serve as both a historical document of the times and lives of a sampling of women writers, but also as a rare look into some of the concerns of a diverse body of writers writing about craft, process and their relationships to the literary arts in different personal/socio-political contexts. A variety of writing styles is welcome and encouraged.

Hillsborough Arts Council
The Hillsborough Arts Council announces a call for artists for the Hillsborough Downtown Art Crafts Show, a juried show that will offer original artwork and quality, handcrafted items for sale on the lawn of the Historic Alexander Dixon House serving as the Orange County Visitor’s Center. The show will take place Saturday, April 16, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Entry fee applies.

Bridge for Emerging Contemporary Art, Albuquerque, N.M.
BECA has issued a call for submissions for its exhibition NEXT. The purpose of NEXT is to discover and highlight the best in the next wave of contemporary art and design. For this exhibition, the BECA Foundation will enlist the input of art and design enthusiasts from around the world. Two artists or designers from each of the four exhibition categories will be selected by international public vote resulting in a total of eight artists and/or designers being featured in the physical group exhibition. Limited number of submissions accepted with a pay-what-you-can entry fee.

University of Nebraska, Lincoln, Neb.
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln and the Nebraska Arts Council seek an interior mural artwork for the newly constructed Jorgensen Hall building located on its city campus. The site for the major interior wall mural is at the front center of the building with views from all three levels of the building. Project budget is $52,000.

Public Art San Antonio, Tex.
Public Art San Antonio is seeking artists or artist-led teams to submit qualifications for two projects: the City of San Antonio's Public Safety Headquarters and the Northwest Services Center Facility. Public artwork will be integrated within a new facility that serves as the central headquarters for the police and fire departments and related city offices (Public Safety Headquarters) and the regional facility for Public Works and Solid Waste Management departments (Northwest Services Center Facility). Project budgets are $500,000 and $160,000, respectively.

Ormond Memorial Art Museum, Ormond Beach, Fla.
The Ormond Memorial Art Museum seeks submissions from artists with previous experience in outdoor installation work to design, build and install an outdoor, site-specific, three-dimensional tribute to veterans who served in the Vietnam War. Project budget for the installation is $26,000.

Associated Artists of Southport
The Associated Artists of Southport is accepting entries for the Spring Art Show to take place Monday, February 28, through Saturday, March 26, at Franklin Square Gallery. Artists 18 years and older may enter two two-dimensional and/or three three-dimensional artworks. Cash prizes awarded. Entry fee applies.

Visual Art Exchange, Raleigh
Visual Art Exchange’s April exhibition is Unfettered (which means free and unrestrained). The most innovative use of materials and ideas are encouraged. There are no theme or media restrictions, only that the work be wired for hanging (if two-dimensional) and structurally sound. Entry fee applies.

Arts Council of Henderson County, Hendersonville
The Arts Council of Henderson County announces a call for entries for each of its three upcoming student and art teacher exhibitions. Three separate exhibitions will take place for elementary students, secondary students and teachers of Henderson County public, private and parochial schools.

Bridge for Emerging Contemporary Art, Albuquerque, N.M.
The BECA Foundation announces a call for entries for its Double Solo Exhibition to be held in April 2011. This exhibition opportunity allows two separate artists, architects or designers to each exhibit new works of art or design at New Studio A.D. in Albuquerque. Entry fee applies.

Bronx Museum of the Arts, Bronx, N.Y.
smARTpower, a program of the Bronx Museum of the Arts, will send 15 U.S. visual artists abroad to work with local artists and young people around the world to create community-based art projects. Travel opportunities of up to 45 days will be awarded to selected artists to design and develop programs in cooperation with local arts organizations in host countries including China, Ecuador, Egypt, Ghana, India, Kosovo, Lebanon, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines, Kenya, Sri Lanka, Turkey and Venezuela. Applications will only be accepted from professional artists.

North Carolina Museum of Art Foundation, Raleigh
The North Carolina Museum of Art Foundation announces a request for proposals for original works of art to be considered for inclusion in the inaugural Art of the Auction, a silent and live auction event to be held at the Museum’s East Building on Saturday, May 21. Proceeds from Art of the Auction will benefit museum programs. A Best in Show prize of $1,000 will be awarded.

American Dance Festival, Durham
The American Dance Festival announces its annual call for submissions for the 16th annual International Screendance Festival. The ADF International Screendance Festival seeks work of high artistic quality that may inspire new ways of thinking about dance and its relationship to the screen. Submissions are accepted in the following categories: choreography for the camera, documentaries, experimental and digital technologies, and student work. All entries will be adjudicated by a panel of filmmakers and choreographers, and selected works will be screened during the 2011 ADF. Entry fee applies.
