The N.C. Arts Council is pleased to share the following opportunities for artists that have recently been submitted to us. Please contact the organization listed if you have any questions.

General Artist Opportunities
Grand Canyon National Park, Flagstaff, Ariz.
Grand Canyon National Park is accepting artist-in-residence proposals from artists working in all genres and traditions. Grand Canyon National Park’s Artist-in-Residence Program seeks artists whose work is engaged in issues that are relevant to the Park Interpretative Themes, while also challenging the visitor to become an active participant in preservation and environmental and cultural advocacy.

The Likhachev Foundation, St. Petersburg, Russia
The Likhachev Foundation is accepting applications from professionals in the field of culture and history or arts from the U.S. who are currently working on creative projects related to Russian culture or history. Creative projects could be a museum exhibition project, a theater performance, a film, photo exhibition, preparation of fiction or research books, etc., related to Russian culture or history. Projects should be conceived in the U.S. for a broad American audience. Residence in Russia should serve as an important stage in the realization of the applicant’s cultural project. Command of the Russian language is very helpful but not required. Students are not eligible.

The Edward F. Albee Foundation, New York, N.Y.
The Edward F. Albee Foundation is accepting applications for its William Flanagan Memorial Creative Persons Center Residencies. The Albee Foundation maintains the center for writers, painters, sculptors and composers to work in a secluded and peaceful atmosphere. Writers and composers are offered a room; visual artists are offered a room and studio space. Residents are responsible for food, travel and other expenses. The residencies are offered in four- and six-week sessions.

Performing Arts
Yale Institute for Music Theatre, New Haven, Conn.
Yale School of Drama and Yale School of Music announce the 2011 Yale Institute for Music Theatre established to identify distinctive and original music theater works by emerging composers and writers, and match them with collaborators who can help them further develop their work in an unpressured workshop setting. Three works will be selected for workshop. Each member of the writing team will receive an honorarium in the amount of $1,000, as well as round-trip transportation and accommodation for the duration of the workshop in June 2011.

Artoteque.com invites artists to enter the second iBIENNIAL 2010–2011 juried contemporary art competition, a 24-month online display. The call for entries for the iBIENNIAL is open to works of any genre. Cash prizes are awarded. Entry fee applies.

City of Memphis, Tenn.
UrbanArt and the City of Memphis are commissioning a work of exterior public art for Charjean Park near I-240. The art should create a “wayfinding” system for a walking trail that children use from the park to Airways Middle School and the nearby neighborhood. The selected artist will conduct community workshops for education purposes and collaborate closely with site architects and designers.

National Arts and Disabilities Center, Los Angeles, Calif.
The National Arts and Disability Center at UCLA would like to invite artists with disabilities to create a new logo for the center. The NADC requests proposals for designs that will give a new graphic identity to the organization. The logo should reflect the mission of the NADC and incorporate the initials or name of the center. A cash award will be given to the artist whose work is chosen for the logo.

City of Chattanooga, Tenn.
The City of Chattanooga is seeking two innovative permanent public art installations for two vacant spots in the heart of downtown Chattanooga. Both locations have substantial pedestrian traffic especially from visitors to various area attractions and restaurants. The final two sculptures selected may come from the same artist or from two different artists. The call to artists is open to all professional artists and artist teams over the age of 18 who currently reside in the U.S.

Florida Gulf Coast University, Ft. Myers, Fla.
Florida Gulf Coast University has eight Art in State Buildings projects with public art budgets ranging between $17,500 and $100,000. An artist pool/registry is being created to select artists for these projects. A full spectrum of artwork will be of interest to the various art selection committees. All eligible (U.S. residents) professional artists interested in showcasing work in a dynamic and growing college campus are encouraged to apply. The projects' various art selection committees will use this pool as a starting place to select finalists for these commissions as well as possibly make direct purchases of existing work.

Moses Cone Regional Cancer Center, Greensboro
Artists are invited to submit qualifications and statements of interest in designing a sculpture for the new Moses Cone Regional Cancer Center expansion on the campus of Wesley Long Hospital in Greensboro. Installation of the sculpture will be scheduled prior to the expected completion of the expansion in mid-November 2011.

Scottsdale Salon of Fine Art, Scottsdale, Ariz.
Scottsdale Salon of Fine Art is sponsoring a national juried sale and exhibition open to all representational artists. This competition will feature the finest in representational figurative, portrait, still life, floral, landscape, interior, wildlife and western themes. The show opening and award ceremony will take place on Friday, April 22, in Scottsdale, Ariz. Cash awards totaling $17,000 will be awarded. Entry fee applies.

Hillsborough Arts Council, Hillsborough
The Hillsborough Arts Council will present Hillsborough Sculpture Tour 2011 on Saturday, April 16, through Friday, Sept. 30. Sculpture must be suitable for outdoor public display, stable and free-standing. Artists will be responsible for installing their own sculptures the week before the tour begins and remove them the week after the tour ends leaving the site in its original condition. A panel of professional judges will select six winning sculptures; each winner will receive an honorarium of $750. Awards will also be given at the end of the tour. Entry fee applies.

City of Philadelphia, Penn.
The City of Philadelphia is accepting applications for three Percent for Art competitions through its public art program: Sturgis Playground, SWAT K-9 facility and the Philadelphia International Airport terminal F hub expansion.

San Francisco Arts Commission, Calif.
The new Public Safety Building will be the first civic building in the Mission Bay neighborhood in San Francisco. Several art opportunities for both interior and exterior public art projects are available. Professional practicing artists or artist teams residing in the U.S. are eligible to apply.

Light Space & Time Gallery, Jupiter, Fla.
Light Space & Time Online Art Gallery presents a juried competition in which two-dimensional artists from around the world submit entries for the theme “Seascapes” for inclusion into the February 2011 online group exhibition. Cape Fear Wildlife Expo, Wilmington
The Cape Fear Wildlife Expo, in conjunction with the North Carolina Wildlife Artist Society, is seeking designs for the Expo’s 2011 commemorative poster. The Cape Fear Wildlife Expo’s goal is to heighten public awareness of natural resources and to encourage conservation of these valuable resources. This call to artists is open to professional and amateur artists ages 18 and older.

Lubeznik Center for the Arts, Michigan City, Ind.
The Lubeznik Center for the Arts is accepting applications for its 30th annual juried art and fine craft exhibition, part of the Lakefront Art Festival Friday, Aug. 19, through Sunday, Aug. 21. A total of $3,000 in artist awards will be given in five categories. Entry fee applies.

City of Brea, Calif.
The City of Brea in Orange County, Calif., and the Brea War Memorial Advisory Committee announce a commission for a war memorial within Brea's Civic and Cultural Center. The design of the memorial will include individual acknowledgements to those Brea citizens killed or missing in action from wartime combat, in addition to a universal recognition of all Brea veterans. This commission is open to all artists and design professionals living and practicing in the U.S.

Town of Cary
The Town of Cary is now accepting applications for solo and group art exhibitions for 2011–2011. Venues include Page Walker Arts & History Center, Town Hall and other facilities around town. Artists working in any medium are invited to submit an application.

International Living Building Institute, Seattle, Wash.
The International Living Building Institute, in partnership with the National Trust for Historic Preservation, announce the Living City Design Competition, a global call to designers, planners, artists and animators for photo-realistic visualizations that show how existing cities might be retrofitted to meet all the requirements of the Living Building Challenge. A $75,000 first prize and $25,000 second prize will be awarded.

North Georgia College and State University, Dahlonega, Ga.
The North Georgia Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition is seeking artists who are at least 18 years of age and were born in or currently reside in one of the 13 Appalachian states: Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia. This project aims to increase the exposure of Appalachian artists by focusing exclusively on artists from the region. The exhibition opens March 2011 and will be on display for one year. Arts and Design Society, Fort Walton Beach, Fla.
The Arts and Design Society of Fort Walton Beach announces its 19th Southeast Regional Juried Fine Arts Exhibition Sunday, May 1, through Thursday, June 2. The competition is open to artists 18 and older living in the Southeastern region of the U.S. All media accepted; work must have been created after Jan 1, 2009. Cash prizes will be awarded. The Utah Public Art Program has issued a RFQ for artists and/or artist teams interested in creating site-specific public art work(s) for the new Agricultural Sciences Facility on the campus of Utah State University in Logan. Associated Artists of Winston-Salem
Associated Artists of Winston-Salem announces a call for entries for Dimensions 2011, a national competition and exhibition established in 1964 to showcase outstanding visual art in two- and three- dimensional fine art media. Works in all fine art media completed within the last 5 years are eligible. Dimensions 2011 will take place Thursday, April 7, through Friday, May 20. Cash prizes will be awarded.

Hillsborough Arts Council, Hillsborough
The Hillsborough Arts Council seeks submissions for the exhibition Gardens and the Natural World to be held Friday, April 22, through Saturday, May 21. The exhibtion is envisioned to include a broad range of plant and animal life, florals, botanical landscapes and beyond. Two-dimensional art and three-dimensional works such as vases, bowls, plates, jewelry and garden decor (bird baths, stepping stones, etc.) are all examples of acceptable items. Entry fee applies.

The Hillsborough Arts Council seeks submissions for the exhibition Traditional Crafts – Past and Present Perspectives: Quilts, Woodcraft and Basketry to be held Friday, Oct. 28, through Saturday, Jan. 7, 2012. The 25th annual Pastels USA, an international exhibition at the Haggin Museum in Stockton, Calif., will open Sunday, April 24. Dry pastels only; no oil pastels will be accepted.

Midwest Sculpture Initiative, Blissfield, Mich.
Midwest Sculpture Initiative announces 13 outdoor sculpture exhibitions for 2011–2012 in towns and cities in Michigan and Ohio. All exhibitions provide the following benefits to the exhibiting sculptor: stipends of $300 to $500; high visibility sites; a year-long coordinated media promotion; sculpture brochures; concrete pads and installation services; strongly encouraged sales; and liability insurance. Artists may enter as many pieces as desired. Exhibitions begin in May 2011 and conclude April 15, 2012.

The Avalon Foundation presents Plein Air – Easton!, the seventh annual competition and arts festival in Easton, Md. Artists may paint within specified areas from Monday, July 18, through Thursday, July 21. Possible scenes include village streets, historic structures, industrial areas, pastoral vistas and marine subjects. Artists must submit two completed, framed and ready-to-be-hung artworks. Filmmakers
Sundance Institute, Park City, Utah
Sundance Institute's Native American and Indigenous Program has created a fellowship to provide direct support to emerging Native American, native Hawaiian, and Alaskan native film artists working in the U.S. The fellowship is a two-stage development opportunity for filmmakers with feature film scripts, documentary projects and short film scripts.
