Bill Fontana

Biography
Fontana's experimental work in sound created the basis for projects at the Whitney Museum of American Art as well as exhibits in France, Germany, Austria and Japan. He has received Guggenheim and NEA fellowships for his work. He is a graduate of the New School for Social Research.

Project Description
Installed in the rotunda and entry of the building is an acoustical mural created of sounds recorded throughout North Carolina. The sounds welcome visitors' with their familiarity as well as stir the imagination with images.

Mary Beebe, Director of the Stuart Collection, University of California, Santa Barbara; Cee Brown, executive director of Creative Time, New York City; Juan Logan, painter, Belmont; Donald Barlow, principal user, and Adi Mistri, architect. Also participating in the selection process was Revenue analyst Geri Greenhill.
