Wallflower

by Fred Chappell

Cousin Jill is shy,
"Modest to a fault."
She always lingers by
The edges of a crowd,
Her evening's fairly spoilt
If she's forced to talk aloud.
But it's not timidity—
She fancies that everyone
Knows what she has done.
