David Novak has been telling stories professionally since 1978. His background includes many years of training and professional experience in the theatre. He has also worked extensively with pantomime, clowning, and creative dramatics. He holds a BFA in Theatre Arts from Southern Methodist University and an MFA in Performance from the University of California at San Diego. He has been featured at the prestigious National Storytelling Festival. In 2002, the National Storytelling Network awarded him the Circle of Excellence, the “Oscar” of storytelling. He has appeared at major festivals across the country including events in Hawaii and Alaska. During 1995 and 1996 he was the Master Storyteller for the Disney Institute at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida.

Novak has published three picture books, The Little Ant, Johnny Appleseed and the Bears, and A Letter from Dad, as well as five audio recordings, Chaste White & Blush Rad, Sterling, More Rhyme than Reason, Itsy Bitsy Spider’s Heroic Climb, and The Cookie Girl. As a storyteller, Novak integrates his many areas of interest and expertise. Every story he tells has been through the filter of his imagination and carries a piece of his heart. Novak believes that storytelling is the original virtual reality, and offers his audience the opportunity to experience their feelings, explore their thoughts, and consider the world we live in.

Programs include community and main-stage theater performances of traditional and original stories. Novak also performs a number of two-act stage programs such as “The Epic of Gilgamesh” and “Hounded: Phantoms at the Threshold.”Fees: $500-$1,200 for community performances; $1,000-$1,500 for main-stage performances; $1,500-$5,000 for two-act programs, depending on venue and size of audience.

Workshops on creative writing, performance skills, and storytelling are also available. Fee: $250-$600.
